About the Graco 164120 7/8-Inch Tip Filter Housing (Airless)

Compatible Machines / Guns

Fits most airless spray guns and sprayers that accept a 7/8-inch tip guard thread.

  • Graco Contractor / Contractor PC spray guns (with 7/8-inch tip guard)
  • Graco FTx series spray guns (standard 7/8-inch thread)
  • Graco Silver Plus & many legacy Graco guns using 7/8-14 UNF tip threads
  • Most pro-grade Graco airless sprayers that ship with a standard 7/8-inch gun (e.g., many Magnum Pro/ProX & Ultra Max II packages)
  • Selected non-Graco guns (Titan/Wagner/others) that use a standard 7/8-inch tip guard thread

Note: If your gun/tip guard uses a different thread size, an adapter may be required.

What is it?

Graco 164120 is a tip filter housing (also called a retainer) that installs between your airless spray gun and the tip guard. It holds a small mesh filter right before the material exits the tip, helping prevent clogs and improving finish quality. It is designed for standard 7/8-inch airless gun/tip interfaces and works with common Graco tip filter meshes.

Key Benefits

  • Reduces tip clogs by capturing debris at the last stage
  • Promotes smoother spray pattern and consistent atomization
  • Quick to service remove, rinse, and reinstall the filter
  • Compatible with popular 60–100 mesh tip filters

Frequently Asked Questions

If your spray gun/tip guard uses the standard 7/8-inch (7/8-14 UNF) thread, this housing will fit. If your system uses a different size, you may need an adapter or a different housing.

60-mesh is common for medium-bodied coatings (e.g., latex), while 100-mesh suits thinner materials or finer finishes. Follow coating manufacturer guidance and adjust if you see frequent clogs or flow restriction.

Yes. The tip filter is a final stage; it complements—not replaces—your pump/manifold filter. Using both reduces debris and helps maintain a clean, consistent spray pattern.

Inspect and rinse the filter after each use. Replace when damaged, deformed, or if persistent clogs occur despite cleaning.
