What the 224966 Inlet Valve Does

This valve threads into the bottom of the pump’s fluid section, captures the inlet ball, and provides the female connection for the suction tube. It allows coating to enter the pump on the downstroke and seals on the upstroke to maintain prime and pressure.

Quick Specs

Part Number 224966 (a.k.a. 224-966)
Part Type Inlet / Intake Valve (Fluid Section)
Common Use Restore suction/priming, fix check-valve leakage, routine pump service
Notes Install per machine manual (clean threads, sealant/torque per spec); confirm model & series

When to Replace

  • Hard priming, frequent loss of prime, or pulsation at the gun
  • Material leaking past the inlet seat or visibly worn/damaged seat
  • Regular pump overhaul (replace inlet & outlet checks as a set for best results)

Installation Tips (General)

  • Disconnect power/pressure, relieve pressure fully, and flush per manual.
  • Clean inlet bore/threads; follow your model’s specified thread sealant and torque.
  • Inspect/replace the inlet ball and related seals if worn.
  • After reassembly, prime with compatible solvent/paint and check for leaks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Check your sprayer’s model + series/serial against the parts manual. Some models (e.g., Duron/EuroPro variants) have series breaks that change valve part numbers. When in doubt, match by parts diagram for your specific serial range.

Slow or failed priming, losing prime during spraying, or material bypass at the inlet seat. If the inlet ball/seat is worn or pitted, the pump won’t hold suction consistently.

It’s smart to inspect/replace the inlet ball, outlet/check valve, and any seals or packings in the fluid section during the same service to restore full performance.

Yes. Bedford part 58-2215 is a well-known replacement that lists compatibility with the same ST-series models. Choose OEM vs aftermarket based on your preference and warranty requirements.

Follow the torque and thread sealant specified in your model’s service manual. Over-tightening can damage the seat or fluid section; under-tightening can cause leakage.
