The GH200 is a gas hydraulic airless sprayer in Graco's DutyMax range. The engine drives a hydraulic system, and the hydraulic system drives the displacement pump, which gives smoother pressure and longer pump life than a direct drive machine. Fluid section components are rated to 3,300 PSI. Standard series uses the 24W997 pump. ProContractor uses the 24W998. Their parts are not interchangeable, so confirm your series before ordering anything in the fluid section.

The GH200 is a different class of machine from the electric sprayers most painters start on, and diagnosing it the same way leads people to expensive wrong conclusions. It has a hydraulic system between the engine and the pump, which means a pressure fault can originate in a place that does not exist on a 395 or a GMAX.
This page covers the whole machine: what the components are, what they cost, which faults are hydraulic and which are fluid section, and when rebuilding stops making sense.
1. What the GH200 Is and Where It Sits
Graco's gas hydraulic range runs GH130, GH200, GH230 and GH300, with DutyMax variants above them. The GH200 sits in the middle, which in practice means it is the machine for crews doing sustained heavy work who do not need GH300 output.
These are not homeowner machines and they are not really contractor electrics either. They are built for elastomerics, fireproofing, corrosion control coatings and high volume commercial production, where a direct drive electric would be working permanently at its limit.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Drive type | Gas engine driving a hydraulic system, which drives the displacement pump |
| Fluid section pressure rating | 3,300 PSI |
| Standard series pump | 24W997 Endurance Chromex piston pump |
| ProContractor series pump | 24W998 |
| Typical gun | 288420 Contractor airless spray gun |
| Material suitability | Elastomerics, acrylics, fireproofing, corrosion control, heavy commercial coatings |
The ProContractor series adds equipment aimed at production crews: ProConnect for quick pump changes, QuikReel hose management for long runs, and SmartControl pressure management. Some configurations are convertible, letting the machine run on electric power for interior work where engine exhaust is not acceptable.
2. Why Hydraulic Changes How You Diagnose It
This is the section that saves GH200 owners the most money, because it is the thing that gets missed.
On a direct drive electric sprayer, pressure problems come from the fluid section or the controls. There are two places to look. On a hydraulic machine there are three, because the hydraulic system sits between the engine and the pump and can fail independently of both.
Low hydraulic oil, a clogged hydraulic filter, or oil that has degraded from heat will all produce weak, slow or erratic pressure that looks exactly like a worn displacement pump. People strip the fluid section, replace perfectly good packings, reassemble, and find nothing changed. Check oil level, oil condition and the hydraulic filter before you open the pump. It costs nothing and it is frequently the answer.
The flip side is real too. Hydraulic drive is why these machines last. The pump gets a smooth, controlled stroke rather than the sharper reversals of a direct drive, so packings and valves generally see less shock loading. A well maintained GH200 fluid section will outlive several electric machines doing the same work.
3. Standard vs ProContractor: 24W997 or 24W998
Both share the hydraulic architecture. They differ in the displacement pump, and that difference matters when ordering.
| Standard Series | ProContractor Series | |
|---|---|---|
| Displacement pump | 24W997 | 24W998 |
| Pump parts page | Standard pump parts | ProContractor pump parts |
| Quick pump change | Standard service procedure | ProConnect |
| Hose management | Manual | QuikReel |
| Best suited to | Steady heavy work, simpler machine | Production crews, long hose runs, fast pump swaps |
Fluid section components do not cross between the 24W997 and 24W998 pumps. The machines look similar and the model badge alone will not always tell you which pump is fitted, particularly on a used machine or one that has had a pump replaced. Read the number off the pump itself, or send us a photo of it and we will identify it. This is the single most common way a GH200 parts order goes wrong.

5. The Repair Cost Ladder
On a machine at this level the gap between the cheapest and most expensive fix is enormous. Working up the ladder rather than starting at the top is worth real money.
Step 1: Check the hydraulic system, $0
Oil level, oil condition, hydraulic filter. Costs nothing and resolves a meaningful share of pressure complaints on hydraulic rigs. Never skip this.
Step 2: Individual seals and O-rings, $5 to $60
A specific leak at a specific point. Throat seal plug at $5.25, packing O-rings from $6.60, gland packings around $28.
Step 3: The packing repair kit, $113.63
The 17D601 kit rebuilds the seals through the fluid section in one go. For a machine that is leaking or losing pressure with sound hard parts, this is the repair.
Step 4: Valve and seat kits, $132 to $200
Piston valve Q kit at $132.16, intake valve seat kit at $156.63, intake valve housing at $199.75. Correct when the valves are not sealing rather than the packings leaking.
Step 5: Hard parts, $400 to $800
Cylinder, sleeve or piston rod. Correct only once you have confirmed scoring or wear on those surfaces. New seals cannot seal against a damaged rod, which is why this step exists.
Step 6: Complete pump, $1,814.40
The whole 24W997 assembly. Justified when multiple hard parts are worn at once, or when downtime costs more than the difference between rebuilding and swapping.
A packing kit is about six percent of the cost of a complete pump. Unlike a homeowner sprayer, where stacked repairs quickly approach replacement cost, a GH200 fluid section is designed to be rebuilt repeatedly and routinely is. The honest exception is a production crew where a day of downtime costs more than the price difference. In that case buying the complete pump and rebuilding the old one as a shelf spare is the better commercial decision, not the lazier one.
6. Hydraulic-Specific Fault Diagnosis
Weak or slow pressure build
The machine runs but takes a long time to reach pressure, or never quite gets there.
Check in order: Hydraulic oil level and condition → hydraulic filter → intake valve seat (240918) → piston valve (249177) → packings (17D601).
Fluid weeping at the packing nut
Material appearing around the throat where the rod enters the cylinder.
Cause: Worn throat packings. Fix: 17D601 packing kit at $113.63. Inspect the rod while it is apart. A scored rod means the kit alone will not hold.
Pressure holds on one stroke but not the other
Pulsation with a distinct rhythm, or pressure that drops on only the up or down stroke.
Cause: One check valve not sealing. Upstroke loss points at the intake valve; downstroke loss points at the piston valve. Fix: 240918 or 249177. This split is the most useful diagnostic on the machine.
Engine runs fine, pump does nothing
Engine at normal speed, no pump movement, no pressure.
Cause: Hydraulic side, not fluid side. Oil level, hydraulic motor, or the linkage between motor and pump. Do not open the fluid section for this symptom.
Oil in the sprayed material
Contamination visible in the finish, or material that will not cure correctly.
Cause: Hydraulic oil crossing into the fluid path, usually a failed seal at the interface. Stop spraying. This ruins coating work and gets worse. Address before the next job.
7. Gun, Hose and Delivery Components
The fluid section is only part of the machine. Delivery components see heavy use on production work.
- Gun: the 288420 Contractor airless spray gun is the standard fitment. Rebuild parts are on the 288420 gun parts page.
- Hose: 240794 BlueMax II airless hose, 1/4 in by 50 ft, is a common fitment. Any replacement must meet or exceed the 3,300 PSI rating.
- Pressure transducer: 243222 on machines with electronic pressure control. Erratic pressure that ignores the control setting points here.
- Tips: heavy coatings need large orifices. See the tip size chart for orifice selection, and confirm the machine supports the size.
Full listings across the delivery side are on the GH200 gun and hose parts list, with additional components on part 2 and part 3.
Never fit a hose rated below the machine's working pressure, and replace any hose with a soft spot, a kink or a weeping fitting rather than working around it. Material at these pressures can inject through skin, which is a surgical emergency rather than a puncture wound. This is the one component where we would tell you to walk away from any sourcing uncertainty regardless of price.
8. Maintenance for a Machine That Earns Money
A GH200 is a revenue asset, so the maintenance case is straightforward: an hour of servicing costs less than an hour of a stopped crew.
- Log hours, not dates. Wear tracks running time. A service log against hours run tells you when packings are due far better than a calendar does.
- Hydraulic oil and filter on schedule. The single most neglected item on these machines and the cause of faults that get misdiagnosed as pump wear.
- Use throat seal liquid. TSL in the throat reservoir keeps packings lubricated and materially extends their life. It is the cheapest maintenance item on the machine.
- Flush immediately after every use. Elastomerics and fireproofing materials are far less forgiving than latex if left to set in the fluid section.
- Inspect the rod every time the pump is open. Run a fingernail along it. Any groove you can catch means new seals will not hold, and fitting them anyway wastes the kit.
- Keep a seal kit on the shelf. At $113.63 against a day of crew downtime, the arithmetic is not close.

What is the Graco GH200?
The GH200 is a gas hydraulic airless sprayer in Graco's DutyMax range, sitting between the GH130 and the GH230. Instead of driving the pump directly from the engine, it uses the engine to run a hydraulic system, and the hydraulic system drives the displacement pump. That gives smoother pressure delivery and longer pump life on heavy coatings.
What is the difference between the GH200 Standard and ProContractor series?
They share the same hydraulic architecture but use different displacement pumps. The Standard series uses the 24W997 Endurance Chromex piston pump. The ProContractor series uses the 24W998 pump and adds features such as ProConnect quick pump changes and QuikReel hose management. Pump parts are not interchangeable between them, so confirm which series you have before ordering.
What pressure does the Graco GH200 run at?
GH200 pump components are rated to 3,300 PSI. That rating applies to the fluid section, valves and seals, and it is the figure to check any replacement hose or fitting against before fitting it to the machine.
Should I rebuild a GH200 pump or replace it?
Rebuild in almost every case where the cylinder bore and piston rod are undamaged. A packing repair kit costs a small fraction of a complete replacement pump, and hydraulic rigs are built to be rebuilt repeatedly. Replacement only makes sense when the rod is scored or the cylinder sleeve is worn beyond what a sleeve kit can restore.
Why is my GH200 losing pressure?
On a hydraulic sprayer, check the hydraulic side before the fluid side. Low hydraulic oil, a clogged hydraulic filter, or oil that has broken down all cause weak or erratic pressure that looks identical to pump wear. If the hydraulic system checks out, then look at the intake valve, piston valve and packings in the displacement pump.
